GENERAL
- A Level Maths 9233 - A rich collection of Java applets to demonstrate concepts in A level mathematics.
- A Level Further Maths 9234 - A rich collection of Java applets to demonstrate concepts in A level further mathematics.
- Yahoo's Mathematics Listing - An excellent starting point for casual surfing. Let your mood decide where you go.
- The Math Room - An excellent collection of mathematics resources maintained by a dedicated secondary school teacher. Another good starting point if you are surfing for mathematical inspiration.
- On-line Dictionary of Mathematics - As in any resources, please do not believe everything you read. When in doubt, consult the books recommended by the author of this page.
STATISTICS
- Confidence Interval Applet - What does it mean by a '95% Confidence Interval'? This simple applet demonstrates the fact that confidence intervals are intervals with random endpoints such that the probability that it contains the actual parameter is given by its level of confidence.
- Central Limit Theorem Applet - This is a demonstration of the Central Limit Theorem. n dice are thrown and the sum of scores on the dice is recorded. The sum is a random variable. This applet shows that the distribution of this sum has a bell shape. As the experiment is repeated, the histogram looks more like a bell shape curve, typical of a random variable which has a normal distribution.
- The Buffon Needle Problem - This is a classic probability problem that deals with the estimation of p by tossing a needle on a surface with parallel grids.
PURE MATHEMATICS
- SOS Maths - A series of web pages on complex numbers, calculus, trigonometry, algebra and differential equation. S.O.S. MATHematics is the website of the Department of Mathematical Sciences at The University of Texas at El Paso, where you can work with materials to help you do your homework, prepare for a test, get ready for class. The material presented here reviews the most important results, techniques and formulas in college and pre-college mathematics. The learning units are presented in worksheet format and require your active participation! This is not meant to be a substitute for your classroom instruction or for reading your textbook.
- Online Integrator - This is an online symbolic integrator, powered by the software Mathematica. Guide to keying in the expression can be found on here.
HISTORY- History of Mathematics - Though it is not in the syllabus, it is good to know. The history of mathematics and mathematicians adds a human touch to the otherwise dry and often unfriendly subject.
- Achievement of Women Mathematicians - Those who think that boys are better are girls in mathematics ought to check this out.
PROBLEMS- On-line Tutor - Have a question that you want to ask? You can ask Dr.
Math by posting your questions through the web.
SOFTWARE- Software for Mathematics- A site containing software for mathematics.
- Peanut Software - A collection of programs that helps you study graphs, performs statistical calculation etc. Best of all, they are free. Thanks to Prof. Richard Parris.
- Winplot
Course.
- Grapmatica.
- Geometer's
Sketchpad.
