Objectives
1. To promote photography as an art form and as a medium of expression among young photographers across schools in Singapore.
2. To encourage sharing among young photographers in Singapore
3. To raise awareness of pertinent social issues through the Photo Essay category

The Singapore Schools’ Photography Competition is organized by the Raffles Junior College Photographic Society. Year 2007 will see out 23rd competition.

Theme
The theme of this year’s competition is “Lumiere”, which is French for “to illuminate”. Participants are free to interpret the theme in any creative way they deem fit. There are three categories: Monochrome, Colour and Photo Essay.

Light is a vital element in any photograph. But photographs emanate another sort of light - the light of seeing something for the first time, the light of seeing something in a new way, the light of discovering.

At its best, photography is a symbol that not only serves to help illuminate some of the darkness of the unknown, but it also serves to lessen the fears that too often accompany the journeys from the known to the unknown.
