Special Programmes / Music Elective Programme

As one of the three junior colleges in Singapore which offer Music at A-Level, Raffles Junior College seeks to provide a comprehensive and integrated music course for those with a passion for the subject.

An All-Round Music Education
The course integrates stylistic harmony with aural training, composition and performance on a first-study instrument. It also includes a broad study of Asian Music as well as an in-depth study of a Western topic.

Special Interests
The Higher Music Project gives students opportunities to work on special areas of musical interest. The students choose to either submit a research paper on an Asian Music topic or to perform on a second-study Asian instrument.

Extensive Facilities and Resources
Extensive facilities and resources include music studios, practice rooms, pianos (including two grand pianos), other musical instruments, synthesizers, composition work stations, music software, recording equipment, as well as our very own music library.

Further Enrichment
Masterclasses, guest lectures, student composition workshops and concerts, and music career seminars are regular features of the course. Excursions and field trips to local and overseas destinations are also conducted. Since 1997, the students have gone on enrichment and performance trips to Vienna and Paris.

Showcasing Talent
With a wide range of music-related CCAs and a vibrant performing arts scene, Raffles offers a stimulating environment for the musical development of aspiring conductors, composers and performers.
