The Raffles Middle East Programme (RMEP) aims to equip students with an understanding of the regional politics and history of the Middle East and its dealings with the international community, taking into consideration the economic significance and diverse make-up of the region. It provides students with a sound understanding of Singapore-Middle East relations so that they will be equipped to engage with the region which has taken a significant step towards globalisation and increased interaction.
RMEP introduces students to the Middle East by looking at differing classifications of the region and the changing definitional dispositions as well as the culture and civilisations of the region through language. Basic conversational Arabic will be taught and students will learn about the historical development, the opportunities and challenges of the Middle East and the impact of the region on the world. The programme will provide students with an experiential learning module comprising two elective components: an overseas immersion programme and a programme to host Middle Eastern students.
