Student Development / Physical Education

Raffles Junior College places a great deal of importance on good physical health and the development of sporting skills. Apart from physical fitness, PE lessons also inculcate in students habits and skills for lifelong recreational pursuits.

At RJC, because we recognise the diverse needs and interests of our students, PE lessons emphasise personal enrichment rather than conformity. Besides providing avenues, such as specialised coaching, for those who are engaged in competitive sports to hone their skills, students are also encouraged to take up games for the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle.

An important feature of PE at Raffles is the Elective Programme which makes provision for first-year students to opt for and undergo training in games, such as swimming, squash, tennis, dance, gymnastics, rock climbing and outdoor pursuits. Students attend sessions that they have opted for and receive training in that particular activity.

PE at Raffles has succeeded in developing excellent athletes. But more importantly, PE has also cultivated in students good social skills, an active and healthy lifestyle, and the appreciation of sportsmanship, which is the mark of a true Rafflesian.
