New campus, improved facilities and more exciting programmes await students at independent raffles junior college in 2005

  1. Raffles Junior College will relocate to its new campus at Bishan Street 21, next to Raffles Institution (RI), from 2005. With a surface area of 8.65 hectares, the new campus will be able to accommodate a projected increase in student capacity from the current 1,700 to 2,300 in 2006, when the first cohort of Raffles Programme (RP)[1] students from RI and Raffles Girls’ Secondary proceed to RJC to continue with their next phase of the RP.

  2. The new RJC campus consists of enhanced facilities that will adequately support the programmes designed to provide students with a holistic Rafflesian education experience. These facilities include a Performing Arts Centre, a multi-purpose hall, a 850-seat lecture theatre, an indoor sports hall and a one-stop Student Services Centre. In addition, being next to RI also gives both RI and RJC more opportunities to share their facilities.

  3. In becoming an independent junior college from 2005, RJC will have the scope and flexibility of providing a differentiated and learner-centred curriculum, best suited to developing bright and talented students. The special programmes include, but are not limited to:
    • Research@Raffles Programme which will provide students with early and sustained experience in science research work in six niche areas: life sciences, materials engineering, photonics, chemical instrumentation analysis, energy and communications. Students will have the opportunity to participate in research projects, internships and attachments with agencies, such as Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA). Research@Raffles will be conducted in six special research laboratories located at the new RJC campus.
    • Raffles Bicultural Programme ( China ) which aims to enhance the Chinese language ability of our students as well as to increase their understanding of the Chinese culture and the development of modern China in the recent century. It will meet the learning needs of students who would like to further their knowledge in both the Chinese language and Chinese culture.
    • Raffles Asia Programme which will help students acquire a good knowledge of the geopolitics, history and culture of Asia so as to nurture them to become “bicultural and multicultural players who can engage in Asian economies”[2].

  4. For the academic year 2005, RJC will continue to charge the standard rate of school fees and miscellaneous fees for Government Junior Colleges. RJC students, who are Singapore citizens, PR and dependent pass holders, will pay $28 per month. Students who join RJC next year will continue to pay $28 per month in their 2nd year in 2006.

  5. With its independent status and new campus, RJC is poised to continue its excellent tradition of nurturing thinkers, leaders and pioneers, and developing men and women with character, confidence and commitment, who will serve by leading and lead in serving whatever their chosen paths may be.
