Theatre Studies and Drama

Theatre Studies and Drama at Raffles Junior College aims to produce analytical, creative and confident students with the initiative and focus to work effectively both individually and in teams.

Theoretical Foundation

The theoretical aspect of the course grounds students in the traditions, conventions and history of theatre. Students learn how theatre informs and is informed by society, culture, politics and religion, how theatrical practitioners influence each other, and how direction and production bring texts to life.

Production and Reception

The course's practical workshops foster self-confidence, intrapersonal intelligence, teamwork and spontaneity, and equip students with a wide range of performance and production skills. Regular trips to see professional theatre productions help develop aesthetic sensitivity and analytical rigour.

Individual Skills and Group Performances

Students will receive personalised guidance from their tutors to help them develop a high level of skill in their chosen theatrical specialisation (e.g. set design, acting, etc.), and students will also work together to interpret scripts and create their own devised group performances, thus cultivating and affirming students' creativity and cooperation.

The Black Box Studio

Our fully outfitted black box studio theatre is a safe and versatile space where students can explore and hone their theatrical skills, and it also serves as a performance venue for their productions.
