Raffles Junior College is one of the three junior colleges in Singapore to offer Music at A-level in its Music Elective Programme (MEP). The RJC Music Unit seeks to provide a comprehensive and integrated A-level Music course for anyone intending to pursue music as a career as well as for the general music-lover.

Through the study of music history and analysis, aural training, stylistic harmony composition and performance on a first-study instrument, the music programme aims to develop well-rounded music students who have inquiring minds, are able to think independently and are well-equipped with skills for life-long learning. Students also undertake Higher Music projects (the equivalent of a Special paper) which involve either a research topic on Asian music or performance on a second study Asian instrument.

The Music Unit organizes a wide range of enrichment and co-curricular activities. These include masterclasses, guest lectures, student composition workshops and concerts, and lunch-time concerts given by MEP students. In the past years, the MEP students have gone on several music educational trips. Places visited included Vienna (1997), Paris (1999) and England (2004 and 2006).

Musically-talented students are also given opportunities to hold leadership positions in Music CCAs within the college and to organize Community-Involvement Projects and Music Camps. The biggest event in the college arts calendar is the annual month-long RJC Arts Festival, featuring the college's best performing and creative talents.

The college has its own music library (holding some 1500 music books and scores, over 1000 CDs). There are 2 music studios and 4 practice rooms, each equipped with a piano, in addition to 5 other pianos in the college, including two grand pianos. Composition workstations with computer software, CD-ROMs, various musical instruments as well as digital keyboards are also available for use by students.
