About RJC / Principal’s Message

Welcome to Raffles Junior College.

Raffles is, in essence, Singapore. Among the early scholars of the institution founded in 1823 by Stamford Raffles were many who played key roles in nation building. The movers, shapers and architects of modern Singapore include war hero Lim Bo Seng, philanthropist Lim Boon Keng, former Presidents of Singapore, Dr Benjamin Sheares and Dr Wee Kim Wee, Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, Deputy Prime Minister S. Jayakumar, former Foreign Minister S. Rajaratnam, Ambassador-at-large Professor Tommy Koh and many more. They all have or had in them the Raffles DNA.

To be a Rafflesian is the dream of many. Those privileged enough to be one know they carry with them a sense of destiny. To be a Rafflesian means having the dare to tread the unbeaten path. To be a Rafflesian is to be thinker, leader and pioneer.

In Raffles Junior College, we work hard at harnessing the best resources available to nurture young men and women who have character, confidence and commitment. We want Rafflesians to be strong in their academic disciplines, and to be able to apply what they know across subjects and relate these to real world issues. We want them to pursue their own areas of interest relentlessly and inspire in others that same passion to create something new. We want them to be curious and ask questions that will lead them to uncover new insights and solutions. We want Rafflesians to show courage and fortitude in the face of challenging circumstances, work well with others and have empathy and a genuine respect for those whose views, cultures and backgrounds differ from theirs.

In Raffles Junior College, we aim at giving our students not just a good experience but a remarkable one. The staff that we have attracted to teach here, and the curriculum that we have designed are meant to give students with diverse strengths, interests and aspirations pathways to discover what they are best at. Students get mentors to help them navigate the challenging and complex contexts of today. They are exposed to industry and leaders of industry to help them understand what it takes to be successful. They have many opportunities to learn through serving in the community and understand the qualities that make a leader great.

This is our way of ensuring that Rafflesians continue to embody the hope of a better age. Journey with us and feel the pulse and heartbeat of RJ.
